Project: harrybliss.com
Requirements: Harry Bliss is a cartoonist and cover artist for The New Yorker
magazine, he illustrates book covers and entire childrens books. He needed a site to
showcase his work, sell signed copies of his cartoons and inform his ever growing
public of book releases, lecture talks etc.
my Solution: The portfolio of cartoons and books required a minimal yet fairly slick
presentation, we chose flash to do this, utilising its animated interface, aiming this
part of the site primarily toward broadband users. The news section was built using a
weblog (blog) mechanism - Harry can edit this also. The store is a full featured
ecommerce soloution built with open source software.
I designed all the web graphics with the exception of Harry's wonderful artwork.
Due to clean validated code, Harry's Store currently has a very respectable Google
page rank of 5.
Project: tvada
Requirements: The Thames Valley Antique Dealers Association needed a website
to represent their 200 plus members giving each member their own pages, containing
details of their business' and examples of stock. The Association also needed a
news facility, interactive map and an area to publish topical content from its
members.
my Solution: The public profile of this site required that it be accessable and easy to
navigate. I built the main site stucture around a cms for easy updating. Built a clean,
easy to use interface in html along with a random flash slideshow, a 'Google Maps'
interactive plan of the dealers locations and two seperate Movable Type(weblog)
based news areas to enable TVADA staff to post news items and articles. I also
designed all the web graphics adapting TVADA's existing logo.
Project: antiquesandaudacity.com
Requirements: Antiques & Audacity burst on the antiques fairs scene in 2003, with
the aim of exhibiting antiques from leading dealers alongside the work of today’s
designer-makers. Now held twice a year, this inspirational fair shows furniture,
garden sculpture, paintings, textiles, silver and ceramics from the 17th to the 21st
centuries.
my Solution: I built for A&A a simple but powerful online database of exhibitors, the
database is searchable and each exhibitor is categorized by specialty. The site also
includes a weblog based news area, an interactive flash based stand plan and a
simple flash intro.I also designed all the web graphics, adapting A&A's existing logo
for the web.
Due to clean validated code, sufficient back-links etc. Antiques & Audacity currently
has a very respectable Google page rank of 5
Project: agence-fraxinoise.com
Requirements: Agence Fraxinoise is a successful Immobilier (Estate agent) in La
Garde freinet in the the Var region of Provence. The agency had come under
increasing pressure to make their portfolio of properties available on line. There
would need to be both French and English versions of the site.
my Solution: For this site, a clean, easy to use interface was needed. A multilingual
database was produced, searchable by price, village, type of property etc. All original
web graphics, information pages, advice on buying property, English-French
dictionary etc.
The result has proved popular with both English and French speaking buyers and
numerous sales have been made from first contact made on the web.
Project: Bryce Attwell Photography
Requirements: This world-renowned food photographer needed a site to showcase
his photography work to Ad-agency directors and other creatives.
My Solution: The target audience in this case, was clearly defined. It's unlikely that
major Ad-agencies would be looking at this site on a dial-up connection so I advised
to build a Flash based portfolio. Flash movies with lots of photos can become large in
size and time consuming to download. Byce Attwell's work falls in to several different
genres so in order to speed up the loading time I seperated the photographs into four
different portfolios which only loaded if the user wish to view them.
The resulting site fast loading and is easy enough to view on a dial-up connection.
Project: willowuk.com
Requirements: This site is the home of British Interior designer and Antiques dealer
Willow Bicknell trading as WillowUK.
Willow needed a website to showcase photographs of stock and his design projects.
my Solution: Willow played a very hands on role in the design of his site, in fact I
built it with Willow acting as art director.
The result is fairly clean and easy to navigate which remains uniquely Willow :-)
Project: i-plant.com
Requirements: This site is the home of British Garden designer Simon Manley. He
wanted a site to show his work to prospective and existing clients in the UK and
France.
my Solution: This site was commissioned purely to showcase Simon Manley's
garden design work. Its an online photo album with one or two bits of Flash fun stuff
thrown in for good measure.
Project: Miportfolio.com
Requirements: My own original Fine Art portfolio site
my Solution: I needed a portfolio site to showcase my paintings and digital print
work. Whilst this site is now getting a bit long in the tooth (five years is a long time on
the internet ;-)It contains early artwork not yet added to this site.
Miportfolio.com is scheduled for demolition, however, it shall remain here a little
longer until my new project takes its place!
